Can you describe your artistic process in creating this artwork?

I wanted to depict one of the most-iconic scenes from The Original Series and create a print that had the feel of a piece of art from the 60s. I prepared by watching the episode “Arena” and sketching out a rough idea that had a Western stand-off vibe. The art is hand-painted in Photoshop and then screenprinted.

How quickly/easily, or not, did your concept come to you? And how long did it take from start to finish to complete the piece?

The idea came very quickly. Almost as soon as I was invited to take part I knew that I would recreate Kirk fighting the Gorn. I was working on the piece on and off for at least three months, but in real time I would say it was about a week’s work.

What excited you most about the opportunity to get involved in this Star Trek 50th anniversary art project?

Just being a part of the celebration and having a piece of art for it is a dream come true. Star Trek is far and away my favorite sci-fi series of all time.
